Dandeli jungle safaris are arranged in open-top jeeps to experience the lush green vegetation, rivers, the wild animals and birds. The duration is 3 hours and timings are during early morning and afternoon. Visitors have to take permission from the forest department before safari. Safari covers about 30 km drive through forest and visitors have high chances to spot variety of wildlife.
Water sports are one of the top attractions of Dandeli. White water rafting in the waters of the Kali River is a thrilling experience for the adventure lovers. Dandeli is also the best place for rafting in South India. River Rafting is one of the top things to do in Dandeli.
White water rafting is an arduous and a challenging adventure. The rafting is done in the rubber boats which starts from Ganeshgudi and ends up in Moulangi, Dandeli, covering a stretch starting from 4 km to 9 km with duration of 2 hr to 4 hours. This raft can accommodate 7 to 8 people. Tourists will be trained before undertaking the rafting ride. Visitors are provided with life jacket and helmet. Trained guides accompany the tourists who also give them basic lessons on rafting.
Many tour operators organize rafting with excellent facilities. Rafting is open from October to May and closed during monsoon. There are two types of rafting, one is Short run (4 km - 2 hour) and the other one is Long run (9 km - 4 hour). The price of the rafting ranges between Rs. 500 to Rs.1500.
Jungle trekking is adventurous journey along the thick Dandeli forests where visitors can explore the nature, wildlife & birds. This is really an adventurous activity in Dandeli Forest, usually undertaken by the young tourists. Trekking is one of the top things to do in Dandeli.
There are several trekking routes in Dandeli. Kavala Caves trek, Kulgi-Nagzari Valley trek and Potoli-Shiroli trek. These are organized by Kulgi Nature Camp, which is run by the forest department. Kulgi-Nagzari Valley trek is a hard and is about 15 km long trek which takes about 8 hours. Potoli-Shiroli is a 13 km medium difficulty trek and takes 5-6 hours. Boarding facilities are available and these treks begin from Kulgi Nature Camp.
There is only one trip organized by the forest department at 6 AM every day to Kavala Caves. The guided tour starts with a ride into the gated forest reserve. A 3-4 km downhill walk and 350 steps down will take you to the caves.
River Crossing is one of the adventurous Dandeli activities where visitors have to cross the river using a safety harness that is attached to the rope which is tied to both the sides of a river & the water flows below. This activity is offered by several resorts in Dandeli. They also provide experienced guide. It is a challenging activity because there will be lot of stress and need to have a good balance.
Kayaking in Dandeli is mostly conducted in Supa Reservoir or River Kali. Dandeli is the only place in south India where one can attempt to learn kayaking to advanced levels. It is one of the main Dandeli activities.

There are about 300 species of birds in and around Dandeli, they include migrated birds. Dandeli Jungle is a home for 4 species of hornbills out of world's 9 species.
The vast variety of exotic birds found here attracts tourists, birdwatchers and eco-tourists from all over the world. Visitors can find both local and migrating birds. These include the kingfisher, honey bird, peacock, black-crested bulbul, blue-headed pitta, brahminy kite, broad-billed roller, crested serpent eagle, great hornbill, woodpecker, Malabar pied hornbill.
Kulgi Nature Camp environs, Ganeshgudi, Dandeli Timber Depot, Shirali Village, Bomanahalli dam, Syntheri Rocks and Dandeli sanctuary are the best birding places in Dandeli region. There are permissions required to enter the core area of the Dandeli sanctuary, which can be obtained from Kulgi along with a guide. Private vehicles are allowed by paying some charges.
Coracle Ride in River Kali is one of the most interesting Dandeli activities. Coracles are small, light-weight boats which are used for river navigation. The boats are made of split and interwoven rods made of willow or other material and tied with bark. There is an outer waterproof layer made of canvas or other waterproof materials. The structure has a flat bottom which helps spread the weight evenly making it ideal for river traveling. It can accommodate four people, including the boat rider-cum-guide.
Zorbing is a new recreational adventure sport of rolling downhill inside a transparent ball called zorb, generally made of transparent plastic. Zorbing is generally performed on a gentle slope but can also be done on a level surface, permitting more rider control. In the absence of hills some operators have constructed inflatable, wooden or metal ramps. Water Zorbing is a good way to have a stress-free time to relax and rejuvenate.
Canyoning is a famous adventure sport in Dandeli. Canyoning in the Dandeli jungle can represent a spectrum of activities some of which are mostly rock activities and some of which are mostly water activities. Like Rappelling, this is also the controlled descent down a rock face using a rope; climbers use this technique when a cliff or slope is too steep or dangerous to descend without protection.
